A message from the owner/developer:

I discovered the jewel of Startop Estates after years of searching the East End of Long Island for the perfect transformative setting for a new home. Montauk possesses some of the most dramatic landscapes on the East End and the hills bounding East Lake Drive offer some of its most spectacular views. Once I discovered the property, the challenge was to mate this perfect setting with the right home. Stunning views from a steeply inclined property meant modern. Modern design offered the flexibility to contour the space to the land without the restrictions of traditional roof lines or window sizes. This enabled us to uniquely capture fabulous land and seascapes from each room, while utilizing spaces and materials that create a sense of warmth and intimacy.

Maintaining the land’s rightful artistic role in each room of the house was a goal made possible by using huge windows to let in the maximum amount of light and view, while making the inside spaces cozy in size, accented by the clean lines of modern design. We used a simple, elegant material palette and simple creative forms to achieve a blend of outside meets inside. Beige concrete, Andalusian Brownstone, sisal carpeting and hand-scraped limed quarter sawn oak make up the floors of the home. Stained mahogany and stucco make up the exterior walls. These materials come together in this fantastic modern space that can forever change the visitor’s relationship with nature.

The house provides for exciting displays of nature, making each stay at the home a unique experience. Sunsets will never be the same after they are experienced from this house, nor will snow or rain--the transformation of the weekend escape is taken to a new level here. With miles of adjacent parkland trails, the convergence of natural resources serves to complete a visitor’s transformation back to nature.

I am very proud of what we accomplished with the development of this home. All of the resources that came together to accomplish this were quite unique. I am honored to have the opportunity to finally share the results of this labor of love and passion.
